Plant tour 1: SARPI-Veolia Constanti, Tarragona

Tour fully booked, please join waiting list

Friday, September 12, 2025

Location: Veolia, Carrer d'Europa, S/N, 43120 Poligono Industrial de Constantí, Tarragona

SARPI-Veolia Constanti, located near the petrochemical industrial complex of Tarragona, is a thermal treatment and waste to energy facility, able to manage all types of hazardous waste which can represent a risk to human health and environment due to their composition and properties.

The facility has a rotary kiln and a post-combustion chamber that treat hazardous waste at high temperatures in order to control and isolate pollutants and toxic components. During this thermal process, the waste is transformed into energy, which is recovered to produce electricity for self consumption of the plant and also a part is injected into the grid. All the metallic fractions in the waste are decontaminated and recovered as material.

During the visit, we will go through the whole treatment process from feeding the waste into the rotary kiln, water and gas treatment, to recovery of materials and transformation of the heat and steam into electricity.

Constantí plant recovers more than 630 tons of metals per year, and is a key player in Spain and one of the most efficient waste to energy plants in Europe. With a treatment capacity of more than 80,000 tons of hazardous wastes per year, the plant is a major partner of different industries in Spain helping them to manage their waste sustainably.
